'Great Decisions' is the title of both the course and the journal/text which is an annually compiled collection of in-depth articles by 'experts' in their various fields of foreign policy matters.  Topics for the 2010/2011 terms are being developed and will be detailed here when finalized.

‘Great Decisions’ is the oldest and largest grass roots civic education program of its kind in the country.  It is popular not only at MILE but on college campuses and in other venues across America.  It is a product of the Foreign Policy Association (FPA) which is an independent, non-partisan, non-governmental, national non-profit and educational organization.

Introducing the program at a past MILE registration/orientation day, one participant stated "those who attend this class recognize and believe, just as the FPA founders, that government and democracy cannot survive without informed citizens.   This program offers the best opportunity for becoming informed and for sharing and debating ideas in a non-threatening but stimulating setting."

Lifelong Middletown resident, Richard Kamins, has assumed the role of moderator of Great Decisions and will create an open forum for debate, discussion and study of current foreign policy issues occurring regularly at MxCC as part of the MILE curriculum.

Moderator:  Richard Kamins,
Richard who will organize and focus discussion on 'Great Decisions', is currently a free-lance writer with and arts preview column (SEE ! HEAR!!) in the Hartford Currant and a producer of a Jewish music program at radio stations WMRD-Middletown and WLIS-Old Saybrook.  He received his BA from the University of Connecticut and Master of Liberal Studies in the Arts from Wesleyan University.  He currently serves on Boards of several community organizations.

"Knowledge is a process of piling up facts; wisdom lies in their simplification."
